Tower Resources has spud the Mvule-1 exploration well in Uganda.
The well is being drilled to an estimated depth of 620 metres and operations are expected to take up to three weeks.
Mvule-1 is the third and final commitment well under the licence for Exploration Area 5 in which Tower Resources has a 100% interest.
The first two wells were unsuccessful, suffering from a lack of reservoir quality, however a subsequent high resolution aero gradiometry survey, together with targeted 2D seismic has identified a dip and fault-controlled structure divided into two segments. The 80 million barrel Mvule prospect is in the larger of the two segments.
The company said in September last year that if the Mvule-1 well is successful, a well in the adjacent smaller fault segment would have a very good chance of adding to reserves.
